inCET: international Community based health Emergency preparedness Training
What interCEPT is not:
international Community-based health Emergency Preparedness Training is NOT intended to provide medical or first aid training.

What interCEPT will achieve:
interCEPT will provide a brief but thorough training to the local community leaders, teachers, transport-workers, potential first reponders and by-standers (the ‘enlightened citizen’) in triage, leadership and patient tranfer skills. All these are regrettably lacking at the scene of an accident where professional recue services are immediatly unable to attend. Attention will also be given to skill retention, good communication and training the trainers. Local schools and other community based activity leaders will be preferentially selected in the evalution stage.

It is anticipated that the health and illness awareness within the community will improve with further social dividends.

Providers:
Experts from Africa, Europe and Asia are participating in the first wave of evaluation, supported by reputable organisations with good standing.

Equipment:
Scientifically validated equipment with realistic scenarios will be used to communicate, practice and evaluate the necessary skills.

Time:
4 to 6 hours
Audience:
Total of 4 local trainers and 12 receipients identified by the host organisation
Content:
Well established material to convey the following skills to the participants (the enlightened citizen):
1. Communication
2. Leadership, risk assessment and avoidance, chain of survival
3. Patient transport
4. Triage
5. Training the trainers within the local comminity to ensure continuing practice and skill retention
6. First aid, understanding the chain of survival, risk assessment disaster planning / mitigation, civil defence and business continuity techniques are available as extra options.

Apart from the core practical skills covered in the above topics the participants will participate in mock exercises, gain familiarity with risk assessment and become aware of the local disaster plan.

Evalution:
The responses of the local community will be evaluated at the time of training and again at 4 months after. Each inCET provider will provide information on the effects of the training. A report will be compiled for the participating organisations.
